I’m a spring baby. Astrologically speaking, an Arian. First sign of the zodiac; first in life. So know that it brings me great pleasure to finally usher in MY season – spring – and all the joy it brings! Specifically, perfect weather (don’t mind my idealistic view) that allows us to mix summer essentials with winter favorites. Spring is fashion’s melting pot. Temperatures scream – anything goes! Zesty fruits and blooming flowers implore us to blossom into the fashionistas we boasted we’d be during winter. The winter ridden fashionista inside me was pining over crop tops & high waist bottoms. What’s not to love?

DIY beauty secrets revealed and tested

This week we’ve decided to challenge ourselves with a few DIY beauty secrets. There’s nothing like going to the the grocery store and racking up on a whole slew of food items that you’re not going to consume. It’s exhilarating don’t you think? And it’s the perfect way to ease into spring — which arrives on Wednesday, by the way These are not our own secrets, they’re coming from you (and our Twitter followers)! Here’s how it’s going to go down.

We’re going to put three of our favorite recipes to the test to find out just how fab they are. If we don’t get a chance to share your must try DIY trick, we’ll post the recipe for others.

With that being said, comment on this post with your own personal DIY recipes. On Thursday, we’ll choose three to try out over the weekend, and we’ll write a post detailing the experience next week! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Marketing Trend: Thigh-high Temporary Tattoo Ads

Japanese are unafraid to walk away from conventional and get knee-deep into eyebrow raising activity. And I say that to those early adopters with the utmost affection; I used to live there

Japanese PR Firm, Absolute Territory, is capitalizing on what’s known in Japan as “zettai ryouiki” by commissioning ad space on thighs! Zettai ryouiki refers to the bare skin between the bottom of a girl’s skirt and her socks. Naturally, there’s a “proper” ratio of exposed skin, according to Project Haruhi – 4:1:2.5. Project Haruhi also hails this the most popular fetish yet.

Participation requirements include: over 18 years of age and at least 20 connections on social media networking sites. To give the ad wings, the temporary sticker must be worn for at least 8 hours and posted on numerous social networking sites. According to Yahoo!, “women can expect to earn between $13 and $128 for one day’s work.”

It’s hard to say whether or not this trend is more disturbing than when PR companies were paying people to put branded tattoos on their forehead, backside, or chest. But it’s certainly the most creative (and uber sketchy!) way to reach leg men. Particularly since the trend plays off school girl uniforms – bare skin between knee socks and skirts - typically worn by underage girls. Major, MAJOR ick factor there!

And guess what? Interest is high! The thigh registry is upwards 1500 applicants at this point. Apparently, thighs aren’t a tough sell!

Dash of Class – Cheese and Meats Night!

Occasionally we’ll add a dash of class to our nightly routine and indulge in a wine and cheese night! My favorite part? CHEESE! I’m a notorious cheese head, but up until lately, I’ve maintained a fairly boring Rolodex of cheese. “Chedda is betta” was my motto. All that is changing with cheese night. I’m discovering that taste changes with age. Case in point, Brie.

My once cheese nemesis is now a very, very delicious friend. This go round, we opted for a delicious double crème Brie, rightfully named, “Supreme Brie.” Its competitors were Prince De Claverolle, a densely textured sheep’s milk cheese with herbaceous and fruity qualities and a rich, buttery finish.

As well as our staple cheese – Blue, baby! As tangy as it’s name, Buttermilk Blue Wisconsin is particularly creamy and delicious. It’s quite lovely and I’m enjoying every bit; but I prefer a heavier, more densely textured blue.

Cured Meats! There’s nothing like a meat and cheese sammie, even when you’re indulging in gourmet cheese! Basic turkey pepperoni definitely does the job, but I wanted to try something new, so we also went with a dried beef. Yum! Yum! Yum! The air-dried beef was well seasoned, but I imagine it’ll be even better drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with fresh black pepper! I’ll keep you posted on that!

Itsy bitsy bikini dreams for summer 2013

Being a mommy to be and an exercise fiend doesn’t always mesh. No matter how hard you want to keep up running until you can’t breathe or doing push up that leave you wondering what you were thinking, sometimes your body just says no. Or at least mine does. These days, on the brink of the third trimester, a one mile walk sometimes leaves me breathless and achy. For someone who ran a half marathon a little over a year ago, that’s no bueno, and a little disheartening!!

But, it’s all for a good reason and come July, fitness and I will become reacquainted on a very personal level. Believe that. I remind myself of this fact every day! Until then I can’t help but dote on a few swoonworthy swimwear items that are sure floating around during spring break and on summer beaches. From itsy bitsy bikinis to seductively sexy one pieces, it’s all here for your enjoyment! The look from Lenny is my personal fave!! It’s the last pic.

This is just a little taste of what to expect during the upcoming seasons. Admire and get that body right!! You know you want to rock some of these!

Fatimah Tuggar: In/Visible Seams’

A collection of Nigerian-born artist Fatimah Tuggar’s unique, stylish, soulful works is currently on display at the University of Delaware (February 6 – May 12). In/Visible Seams’ features a montage of ink-jet prints on vinyl. It’s a montage so expect the unexected! It’s photography taken to an unexpected level. The colors are vivid. The scenes are inspiring. It’s imagery that spans the world, from Nigeria, to the United States, to many places in between. It’s fashion, funk, tradition, and mystique, we could go on, but you probably get the point. We’re sad we’re not going to get to see it up close and personal.

Never one to go the way of trends, Fatimah marches to the beat of her own drum when it comes to her artwork, and the outcome is always enjoyable. She’s not one you can simply look past.

DKNY goes from $15K payout to $25K in PR mishap

So what happens when a company wants to use an individual’s photos, they can’t agree on a payment terms and the company decides to use the photos anyway? Well all you have to do is ask good ol’ DKNY. When the brand and photographer Brandon Stanton couldn’t agree on terms for use of his photos, a Bangkok DKNY outlet ran a store display featuring his images anyway.

Big no, no.

Brandon is a pretty popular guy and couldn’t have taken the dirty road, but instead he didn’t sue or get nasty on social media, he simply requested that instead of paying him, DKNY donate $100K to the YMCA in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn. And he used his social media outlets to make the request. Nice!

So what’s the outcome? DKNY didn’t make the full $100K donation, but they did donate $25K. That’s a pretty big win for the YMCA if you ask us!

Kudos to Brandon for using his platform to do some good.

Stamp! Stamp! Stamp! With Marc Jacobs as the new Creative Director at Diet Coke, get ready to be carried into a new era of cool – And his signature style is all over it! In case you didn’t notice, Marc Jacob’s iconic prints adorn Broadway-themed Diet Coke cans to celebrate Pepsi Light’s 30^th Anniversary.

But wait! There’s more! Marc Jacobs risks being typed a “Sex Symbol” (as if that’s a bad thing!) by stripping down for the commercial spot. Not sure where this beverage branding partnership is headed, but our curiosity is piqued!

PR Series: Tips of the Trade – Always be prepared to grow

We’ve been running our PR series for several weeks now, and we’d thought we’d close it out with a little advice that’s fitting not only public relations practitioners, but for everyone. It’s pretty simple. Always be prepared for growth opportunities. You can find nuggets of wisdom everywhere. The individual fresh out of college has experiences and ideas wholly unique from the 30-year professional, but both can add value to your journey.

Be present and mindful of everything around you. You’d be surprised at how easy it is to miss something that could change the trajectory of your career. Your professional career is a journey. Each step means something and impacts the next one you take — whether it be positively or negatively. Enjoy it. Embrace it. Don’t rush the experience.
