It's something Rare in Fashion: giving someone new a chance.

Looking for a haute new fashion fix? Well, next time you’re in Italy, stop by D&G’s new spot! If you’re thinking D&G wares, think again, this highly coveted local on Via Spiga caters to NEW designers. Lucky ducklings!

Spiga2, opened during Milan Fashion week, housing designs from 25 soon to be greats. But don’t be surprised if you also spot D&G, Yigal Azrouel, Martin Grant, & Sophie Theallet sprinkled in- but who’s mad abt that, eh? The store has a lifestyle concept, including a complimentary cafe and internet on the second floor. Spiga2 is also hand selecting the designers and purchasing 5 of their designs- a sign of faith in the newbies visions.

So, outside of the monetary rewards, why go through the effort? Stefano Gabbana frankly said,”We are big. We’re good. We’re Dolce & Gabbana. Why not give someone new a chance?” Got that right.

However, this isn’t a new move. In 1995, Young Designers Emporium hit the scene in South Africa and is now a fashion force- boasting 90 up and coming designers featured in19 YDE stores throughout the country!

“Offer[ing] cutting edge, sexy, chic, expressive, edgy, underground and original clothing & accessories to customers who followed both local and international trends, but were individualists who did not conform to set or pre-defined standards.”

Allowing designers to set their own prices for a cut, YDE is officially a consignment shop on steroids.

US boasts numerous opportunities for newbie designers, but we would love to see a YDE-esque store rock the retail regime on a national level. It’ll happen… hopefully sooner than later!
