You don’t need a PR firm…Say what????

Hate to say it, but we get a bit offended when we read the headline that goes something like, “You don’t need a PR (or social media or marketing) agency.” The immediate thought that comes to mind is, “How do you know, and what gives you the right to make that generalization.” We’ll just call it a pet peeve.

Do all businesses need to go out and hire a firm to work on their behalf? The answer is absolutely not, and we can say that with every ounce of certainty that makes up the word absolutely. But — to just make that statement with so much as a sentence of dialogue between the person saying it and the business they’re targeting is just wrong. It’s like telling someone they don’t need a haircut when they’re hair is completely covered by a hat, or telling them a dress doesn’t fit when it’s still on the hanger.

There’s no way of knowing if a business needs or does not need a service without delving a lot deeper. Every business that has ever opened its doors has a unique set of strengths, weaknesses and pain points. No two businesses are the same. For that reason, it takes some individualized listening, conversation and strategy to come up with a plan that fits a businesses’ needs.

Don’t mean to rant, but we had to get that off our chests. Thanks for listening. And now it’s back to our regularly scheduled programming. 🙂
