Is this “Social Media Savvy?”: Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” Trailer

Have you seen the Django Unchained trailer yet? You better have! That’s a rhetorical question since I embedded the video in this post lol. Carrying on… 🙂 Last week, Mashable cited the trailer as “social media savvy.” That raised a few flags on our end, so we’d love to get your opinion on the topic.

At the heart of the article, is what the author, Samantha Murphy, considered to be “Social Media Savvy” about the trailer. Near the end of the trailer, there’s a call to action, encouraging viewers to sign up for Fandango’s Fan Alerts. Fan Alerts is the first online campaign of its kind from Fandango and promises to deliver moviegoers news and updates about the film ahead of time, if they sign up. Including advance ticket sales and the opportunity to win tickets to the film’s world premier. Another part of the trailer is dedicated to encouraging viewers to visit Django Unchained’s Facebook Page, which now boasts over 20,000 fans.

That being said, what did you think? Was the trailer enough to get you involved in Django Unchained’s Social Media efforts? More importantly, are you intrigued enough to check out the movie? And was enough done to surpass the normal bar and be cited as a “Social Media Savvy Trailer?” What was the savvy part?

One thing is for sure, although Django Unleashed is not slated to be released until Christmas 2012,  the Trailer + All Star Cast (including Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, Don Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson) + us (since we’re writing about it) are putting the flick in our minds, months in advance.
